How To Take Fabulous Holiday Photographs This Weekend

Yes, it's almost here: as I write this, only 2 more days until Christmas Eve.  Everyone's getting excited (if you're a woman, change that to stressed!), hopefully everything's been done and you're waiting for your relatives to arrive.

Now is the time to have a think about the sort of holiday photographs you'd like to take this year and if you read my last Blog post on how to use your compact camera, you're well on your way to getting some cracking Christmas images.  So here are a few more things you might want to consider:
  • Try to avoid choreographing people; this will really frustrate everyone and it's not realistic.  Capture the moments as they happen;
  • Take pictures of people's faces as they open their presents:  their expressions are priceless;
  • Get down low: grab some shots from a kid's perspective;
  • In the kitchen: the focal point of the house (unless you're a man!).  Use your macro function to get some close up shots of the food;
  • The dining table: how often do you all eat at the dining table when it's all decorated?  Preserve the memory!
  • The tree with all the presents underneath:  grab some shots here.  Try some close ups of labels and wrapping paper;
  • Take shots of people asleep after the lunch;
  • Take pictures from above by standing on a chair:  the different perspective will instantly give your images some pizzazz.
Above all, take lots of images (it doesn't cost anything after all!), vary your angles and just enjoy your photography!  But try not to use the flash!!!
Happy Christmas everyone!
